Geology 1010
This was definitely one of the few classes I would actually WANT to wake up for. Every class was actually a learning experience it wasn’t just filled with boring lectures on things that don’t really relate to us. I think I had a really good professor who always made the class entertaining and always made me feel like he actually WANTED to be there to teach us.
Here are some things I learned about:
Mass Wasting: process by which rock, soil and regolith move downslope under the force of gravity. Types of mass wasting include creep, slides, and flows.
We see these things all the time when we look up at the mountain and see houses built on the sides of mountains and are slowly sliding downhill. They start to crack and fall apart. If more people and contractors were to pay more attention to geology we wouldn’t have this problem!
Earthquakes: Movement in faults.
We all have a basic knowledge of earthquakes but realistically we don’t have any idea of why they are really caused. I learned about all the different plate boundaries and other influences of earthquakes.
I learned about levy’s and dams, and all the geologists killed by erupting volcanoes. This was a really good class and I really enjoyed going to it every Tuesday and Thursday and learning about the rocks of earth and the disasters we see all the time.
